What a Department in Professional Institutes can do?
‘Computer Science is a science of abstraction -creating the right model for a problem and devising the appropriate mechanizable techniques to solve it.’ A well defined and task oriented program formulation is a very important ingredient for departmental development. The department has to be more responsible & remove intellectual obsolescence for this. With this regard the computer engineering department has established an action plan which encompasses the overall development of faculty members and students to cultivate competing skills. Broadly speaking, the function of teaching is to transmit knowledge whereas research helps to discover knowledge. If the department has the responsibility of dispensing knowledge, it should also assume some responsibility of generating knowledge. As rightly said Research and Academics are two sides of a coin; the department not only concentrate on teaching for transmitting the knowledge but also inculcate research environment to discover knowledge. In this regard we encourage our staff-members to undertake various research level projects from various funding agencies. The department had already completed 2 projects under BCUD (Board of College and University Development) , University of Pune in 2010. In year 2011, 2 more projects are sanctioned by BCUD. Such research and development programs would flourish most successfully when they are carried in an environment where academic excellence is truly appreciated. Our department provides this academic setup that the research is accepted as a normal part of the education program. Highly qualified faculty is the major strength of the department. Presently department has 2 professors with PhD degree, 01 Associate Professors, 16 Assistant Professors and 7 lecturers; out of which 2 are pursuing PhD, and 2 pursuing ME. Faculty members have published research papers in reputed journals, International and National conferences organized in India and abroad. The department also has got the approval for additional intake of 60 students to be run in 2nd shift academic year 2011-12.

The student is focus of concentration at the department. For the all rounder performance of student department encourage them to participate in various technical and cultural activities viz. Guest lectures, Industry visits and intercollegiate competitions , Purshotam, Forodiya karandak. The department put extra efforts on Counseling sessions, soft skill sessions ,identification of the non performing students in order to improve the result and confidence among them.

The department has one of the best infrastructure to cater the needs of syllabus and providing the real time experience to the students,We have 08 laboratories, more than 217 latest P4 computers, 05 LCD projectors and all type of softwares which are needed according to the syllabus. All labs are equipped with the latest printers, scanners, web cameras, speakers etc. All the class rooms are equipped with the computer, LCD projectors and PA system. We have a departmental library endowed with the latest technical books, journals and magazines for their ready reference.

The last year result of the department is 88 %, out of which 90 % students have secured distinction and firstclass, which is really remarkable. One of our student Ms. Alpana Dhillon has got place in top 10 students of University of Pune list. Also one of our student Mr. Apurv Pant has been selected for internationally accepted well known competition "Code for Bill" held by Microsoft Corporation.This year we have 72% placement in various companies. The major Companies where our students got placement are Microsoft, IBM, Infosys, Google, PSPL, Wipro, and many more. In year 2011-12 one of our student “Mr.Sanket Gosavi “ got highest package of Rs.35lacs/annum in ‘Works Applications Co. Ltd.’,Singapur.

One of the major highlights of the department is the relation ship with the industries.We have a tie up for the training of the students and staff with Microsoft, IBM & Oracle corporation. The department helps the students to get their projects sponsored by reputed organizations like Zensar, PSPL etc. The department undertakes various activities for the students such as Counseling sessions to identify the non performing students to improve the result and confidence among them. Guest lectures, Industry visits and intercollegiate competitions are organized regularly to improve the soft skills of the students.

Students are encouraged to participate in co curricular and extra curricular activities. Department has CSI (Computer Society of India) students branch. They will organize lecture series and work shops in recent advances in technology by eminent personalities from Industry and academia. This year we have 3 sponsored project from TIFR(Tata Institute of Fundamental Research) which are developed by final year students.We also promote students to participate in various technical workshops,seminars, training programs. This year near about 30 students has participated in above mentioned activities. Students from final year has published 10 papers in various International, National level conferences. Mr. Nikhil Modgi awarded with various awards in singing competitions. Every year students participate in national level competitions like ROBOCON, Techfest etc. The student also participates in prestigious competitions like Purushottam and Firodiya Karandak.
