TREE PLANTATION

"Live Green…Love Green…Think Green"….with this mantra in mind and in heart, a total of 184
ebullient volunteers of NSS V.I.I.T, in collaboration with Tata Motors, visited the College of
Military Engineering, Khadki for the Tree Plantation drive organized here.
The event started with a list of dignitaries addressing the students on the day's agenda
as well as its significance. Mr.S.D.Dhawale, Department Head, Tata Motors, advised the
students to not only plant trees and contribute to the environment ,but also to see them grow
and flourish into their beautiful form. Mr. Prashant Aher, General Manager (HR), Tata Motors
pointed out that sustainability is the new buzzword in today's time. He also informed the
students about the triple bottom line-planet, ecology and human being- stating that everybody
should strive for a perfect balance between the trio. He asked the students to put their heart
and soul into each tree that they plant today.

Prof. Dr. Mrs. B.S. Karkare, Principal, V.I.I.T.,
briefed the crowd about the previous tree plantation drive at Temghar where a total of 500
saplings were planted by the students. She also shed light on how these drives are need of the
hour, what with global warming and other similar crises threatening the mankind. Also, she
congratulated the students for their efforts in helping curb the same. Brig. Dhani, C.M.E.,
seconded her opinion, saying that in a bid to increase the green cover, people, regardless of
their age or occupation, should contribute to a greener and cleaner tomorrow. He also urged
the students to reduce the carbon footprints in their own possible way.
Students were then briefed by Prof. Mr. R.S.Acharya, on how to go about with the task
at hand. Amidst the vast expanse of flora, a shy drizzle and clean air, the volunteers set foot for
the noble cause. With the holes for planting the saplings already dug up by the men at C.M.E,
dignitaries and volunteers alike, planted a staggering amount of 1200 saplings on the C.M.E
campus

The enthusiasm and hard work by every person there was infectious! After an hour of
enriching Mother Earth, the volunteers were commended for their efforts by Brig. Dhani. A
sense of pride and satisfaction for having done their bit for preserving the nature echoed
through their faces
