Electronics and Telecommunication Department

Electronics and Telecommunications (E & TC) Engineering is most versatile and popular discipline. The curriculum designed is a perfect blend of Electronics, Communication and Computing technologies. The budding graduates from this discipline have very good job opportunities in Very large scale Integration (VLSI )technologies, Embedded systems ,Signal processing , Radio Frequency (RF) communication , mobile communications and in Software Engineering. Department also runs a course of BE (Electronics) which was started in 2006-07.

The Electronics and Telecommunication department at Vishwakarma Institute of Information Technology is one of the best and largest departments with its investment in equipments over Rs.3.25 crore, excellent infrastructural facilities with 6 classrooms with LCD, OHP projection facilities, 12 laboratories and other amenities along with departmental library. Highly qualified faculty is the major strength of the department. Presently department has 4 professors with PhD degree, 07 Associate Professors, 30 Assistant Professors and 2 lecturers; out of which 15 are pursuing PhD, and 2 pursuing ME. Faculty members have published research papers in reputed journals, International and National conferences organized in India and abroad.

The department also runs postgraduate program M.E. Electronics and Telecommunication with specialization in Signal Processing which has an intake capacity of 18. University of Pune has also approved research center in Electronics engineering in 2012 and our approved PhD guides will be accepting PhD students from 2012-13.

Mr.Sudhendra Kulkarni, student of first batch passed out from this department secured 4th rank in the B.E (Electronics and Telecommunications) final year examinations. Mr. Ayushmaan Basu secured 7th rank in university BE E&TC exam in 2008-09. . Mr. Sohan Botke secured 4th rank in university BE E&TC exam in 2008-09. Results of all classes are consistently good and always been higher than average university results.

Students are encouraged to participate in co curricular and extra curricular activities. Department has IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineering ,USA) students branch. They organize lecture series and work shops in recent advances in technology by eminent personalities from Industry and academia which includes IIT’s. Every year IEEE students branch organizes National Level technical competition called “PERCEPTION”. Last year around 4000 students from different colleges participate in more than 30 events.

This year IEEE student Branch of VIIT organized a national conference, National Conference for Students in Electrical and Electronics Engineering (NCSEE) to promote plagiarism-free technical writing amongst UG students. Every year students participate in national level competitions like ROBOCON, Techfest etc. The students also participate and flourish in prestigious competitions like Purushottam and Firodiya Karandak.

Students from department are actively involved in academic projects in collaboration with Tata Institute of Fundamental Research. Many students have been placed in multinational companies like Infosys , L & T , Cognizant Technologies , Persistant systems , KPIT Infosys ,Zensar Technologies , IBM , Wipro Technologies, Fidelity International, Accenture , Erricson, BMC software etc. In last 4 year 180 students have been recruited through campus interviews.

Department conducts minimum three short term training programs every year for staff development. Staff members are also involved in consultation and research project. The MOU’s are signed with HSL Technology Ltd , Wavelet Technology, YU Technologies ,Sangli and Prime Technologies ,Pune for consulation and development of projects. Eight research projects are sanctioned by university of Pune. Presently the staff is working for research and consultation projects of worth Rs. 14 Lakhs. Staff members also have patents for their innovations.
