Information Technology plays a key role in helping organizations achieve profitable results and keep competitive forces in check. IT is a technology of computers, communications and other devices that integrate data, equipment, personnel and problem-solving methods in planning and controlling business activities. Information Technology provides the means of collecting, storing, encoding, processing, analyzing, transmitting, receiving and printing text, audio or video information. It has both logical and technical components. Logical components include mission, functional and information requirements, system configurations and information flows. Technical components include IT standards and rules that will be used to implement the logical architecture.

Keeping the objective of educating young mindsets and creating effective IT professionals, Department of Information Technology was established in 2005. With the help of best of the infrastructure and the proper action plan, we train and educate engineers of outstanding ability who can become leaders in their profession. We also associate closely with industrial leaders to help students in undertaking programs needed in their sectors. This makes IT department of VIIT one of the best departments in Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU).

The department is instrumental in conducting various technical and non-technical activities for students as well as faculty members. Every semester, here in the department, regular classes of latest technologies are being conducted for students. On a continuous basis, students are made aware about the latest industry trends and needs in various technological areas. Well-motivated faculty members are always engaged in student’s welfare. Encouragement and guidance is offered to the students for participating in sports and various extracurricular activities to highlight and strengthen their non-technical skills. As an outcome, department has produced several university rankers till date. As a result, IT department of VIIT is ranked amongst top five IT departments of engineering colleges under SPPU.

Program Educational Objectives:

Graduates of our program will

  1. Apply technical and professional IT skills required for industry, higher education and entrpreneurship.

  2. Understand scientific, mathematical and theoretical foundations of information technologies and have ability to conduct research.

  3. Adapt to emerging information technologies and international work environment for solving engineering problems with a multidisciplinary and user centric approach.

  4. Recognize the importance of lifelong learning, soft skills and professional ethics to meet the personal and organizational goals.

Graduates of our program are expected to have ability

  1. To apply knowledge of mathematics ,science, and computing for developing IT solutions.

  2. To identify and analyze user needs and elicit computing requirements pertaining to information systems.

  3. To design, develop and test software components using standard processes and best practices.

  5. To create, select and apply appropriate techniques ,skills and modern tools for computing practice.

  6. To understand social issues and implement IT solutions with social responsibilities.

  7. To analyse impact of software applications on sustainable growth of society and environment.

  9. To function efficiently as an individual or a member of multidisciplinary team.

  10. To communicate effectively with engineering community and society.

  11. To use project management and finance principles for successful planning and execution of software projects.
