Internships are educational and career development opportunities, providing practical experience in a field or discipline. They are structured, short-term, supervised placements often focused around particular tasks or projects with defined timescales.

Objective

Our objective is to give the exposure to the industrial environment and provide possible opportunities to learn, understand and sharpen the real time technical / managerial skills required at the job.

Process

In Sem 7/8, Internship module is mandatory for Final Year BTech students. All other (SY/TY) students are encouraged to take up internship programs during their semester break. Faculty members give their guidelines, suggestions and scope and contact details of an internship. They also help the students by interacting with the industrial experts, provide the students recommendation letters and other necessary supports.

The alumni coordinator constantly interacts with alumni those who are working in the industries and request them to provide necessary guide lines and supports for their junior’s internship.

Student can choose different types of Internships such as Industry internship (Semester long), Research Organisation (IIT/NIT/research labs), Public undertakings organisation, Government Organisation (AICTE), Social Internships (NGO), and VIIT Research Internship (VSRPS). Table below lists various platforms for students to identify internship opportunities in their area of interest.

The Department has a strong Alumni Network across the country. The Alumni not only help arranging for the Co-op Internships but also mentor the students in their internship. The Placement cell coordinates this effort and ensures that every student gets the summer training / internship opportunity in some industry /educational / R&D Institution.

Impact of internship @ Paypal

Mr. Rajesh Alane and Mr. Pranav Mehta of our department were hired as interns by Paypal during the 2019-20 academic year. The interns outperformed others in personal and working hygiene, recognising problem situations and identifying issues, generating alternative solutions, and making changes as needed, meeting technical skills requirements and implementing the theory courses, working in a team, sharing information and knowledge, confidence, interacting with colleagues and supervisors, and understanding job procedures, policies, and rules, according to their industry mentor during their regular reviews.

As a consequence, Paypal employed both of them as full-time employees, with the highest compensation package of 27 lacs per year.
